Hot air brushes – what you need to know

What is a hot air brush?

In case you are not sure, hot air brushes are a type of styling tool that combines the functionality of a hairbrush with the convenience of a hair dryer – two in one. They work by using heated air to dry and style hair. They are like a hair dryer, combined with a brush component which allows you to dry, shape and smooth your hair as you go.

How do hot air brushes work?

I’m no technical expert, but I assume the basic structure of a hot air brush includes a heating element and a motor that powers a fan. When you turn on the brush, the heating element warms up the air, and the fan blows the heated air through the bristles of the brush; making it – a hot-air-brush! So, as you run the brush through your hair, the warm air helps to dry it and you are adding some style at the same time.

Hot air brushes generally come with multiple temperature and speed settings, so you can adjust the heat and air flow to suit your hair type and hopefully achieve your styling preferences. Some hot air brushes also come with ionic technology, this is designed to reduce frizz and static in your hair – don’t we all need that?!

Overall, hot air brushes are a convenient and versatile tool for styling your hair. They can help you achieve a variety of looks while also saving you time by combining two hair styling tools in one.

How long have hot air brushes existed?

Hot air brushes are not new – the concept has been in existence for a while.

Over the years, hot air brushes have undergone several improvements, with new features added to enhance their effectiveness and safety. The older versions often lacked the power to really create a style that would hold – technology has come a long way.

Once it was a comb rather than a brush which was on the end of the barrel and the barrel itself was shaped more like part of a hairdryer rather than the shape which we traditionally expect at the end of a brush.

Time has seen hot air brushes with a rotating brush which would do the curling or straightening work for you – although there was always the risk that they would get stuck in your hair and that’s why I prefer the products which are on the market now.

Today, there are many different types of hot air brushes available, ranging from basic models to more advanced ones that feature multiple heat settings, various brush attachments, and other innovative features.
